LAUNCH OF “SAVE ELECTRICITY FROM 17:00 TO 22:00” SOCIAL IMPACT CAMPAIGN

The “SAVE ELECTRICITY FROM 17:00 TO 22:00” social impact campaign is being launched to inspire the public to use energy efficiently. The campaign kicked off today, November 28th, at the 3rd Thermal Power Plant. Deputy Minister of Energy Bayarmagnai M., Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Committee Tuvshinchuluun E., along with leaders from the Mongolian Energy Governance Program of the United States Agency for International Development, participated in the opening ceremony and provided insightful information.

Deputy Minister of Energy, Bayarmagnai M. emphasized that “Our system will face capacity challenges until a new power source is added. This situation poses difficulties in sustaining a consistent supply of electricity and thermal energy for consumers. This pressing concern is vital for the stability of the energy sector. To address this challenge, the primary step involves establishing a system of incentives and support mechanisms to promote efficiency and savings across all stages of energy production, supply, and consumption. Additionally, enhancing efficiency can be achieved by imparting knowledge and information to consumers and the public, as well as through educational initiatives aimed at promoting responsible energy usage”

The head of the Energy Regulatory Commission, Tuvshinchuluun E. said that “The energy sector plays a pivotal role in ensuring the stable development of Mongolia's national security, economy, and society. However, the persistent challenge of meeting the country's expanding energy demands has emerged as a critical issue in recent years”

Steve Winkates, Deputy Head of Development at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), a key supporter of Mongolia's energy governance program, emphasized the importance of considering unused or saved energy as the cleanest form. He highlighted its efficacy as a viable short-term solution, citing successful USAID-backed initiatives that have promoted energy efficiency and savings across various countries. Winkates expressed the USAID's full support and active involvement in Mongolia's “SAVE ELECTRICITY FROM 17:00 TO 22:00” campaign, initiated by the Ministry of Energy, the Energy Regulatory Commission, and other sector organizations.

The "SAVE ELECTRICITY FROM 17:00 TO 22:00" social impact campaign seeks to manage the increasing demand for energy by instilling energy-saving practices, fostering responsible habits, and promoting efficient and intelligent usage among all consumers, encompassing citizens, households, offices, and industries. Key participants in the launch of this impactful campaign include Ulaanbaatar Electricity Distribution Network SOSC, National Dispatch Center SOSC, and National Power Transmission Grid SOSC.

During winter, our country experiences a significant surge in energy consumption, particularly with a substantial spike in load on the energy system from 17:00 to 22:00. This period poses risks of potential power shortages, heightened import consumption, and potential energy restrictions. It is imperative for every citizen, household, enterprise, and energy user to adjust their electricity usage and actively engage in economical practices. Doing so not only contributes to substantial economic benefits but also yields positive environmental impacts.

As an integral component of the "SAVE ELECTRICITY FROM 17:00 TO 22:00" campaign, we will consistently disseminate information regarding energy conservation, technological solutions, and straightforward methods to save energy. Fostering a collective awareness and understanding among citizens is pivotal, as it encourages all energy consumers to adopt prudent and intelligent consumption habits for both economic and environmental benefits.
