ENGAGEMENT WITH BRITISH COLUMBIA UTILITIES COMMISSION OF CANADA

         On April 15th, 2024, E. Tuvshinchuluun, Chairman of Energy Regulatory Commission of Mongolia (ERC), B. Chimedregzen, Director of ERC's Cooperation Division, and P.Khiimorisain, Specialist of the Energy Conservation Department of ERC, have worked in Vancouver, Canada, and had a meeting with representatives from the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC), including Anna K. Fung, Deputy Chairman, Blair Lockhart, Commissioner, and Yolanda Domingo, Chief Executive Officer, and discussed about regulatory frameworks in British Columbia and Mongolia.  

        British Columbia province, spanning 944,735 km2 and with a population of 4.5 million, boasts a GDP per capita of 41,689 Canadian dollars. The province primarily relies on hydropower, which accounts for 99% of its energy consumption. Surplus electricity is exported to the United States. The BCUC operates with a team of 12 commissioners and more than 100 employees. 

      The meeting between ERC of Mongolia and BCUC of Canada focused on various aspects of energy regulation, including ongoing activities, encountered challenges, tariff structures, and energy conservation strategies. 

       Concluding the discussions, both the Energy Regulatory Commission of Mongolia and the British Columbia Utilities Commission of Canada committed to fostering an exchange of expertise, best practices, and enhanced collaboration in the aforementioned areas.
