Discussed cooperation on renewable energy, clean energy production,  and new technology projects

        Leaders of the Energy Regulatory Commission of Mongolia had a meeting with visiting guests and representatives from Japan to exchange views on the renewable energy, battery storage, and H2 production projects being implemented by Japan’s Smart Solar Corporation, and to discuss further cooperation in the energy sector.

      On the Japanese side, participants included Mr. Hirofumi Tezuka, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Smart Solar Corporation; Mr. Yuichi Mori, Director of the Corporation; Mr. Yukichi Maeda, former Member of the House of Representatives of Japan; and Mr. Yushun Tani, Chief Executive Officer of the Social Contribution Fund Group.

        The Japanese project developers presented their plans to implement in Ömnögovi Province a 65 MW solar PV power plant integrated with a 108 MWh battery storage facility, along with technological solutions for a H2 production plant. They also outlined a proposed ammonia production plant utilizing H2, and opportunities to export processed ammonia to Japan. The primary objective of the project is not only to contribute to grid stability in the energy sector and to promote bilateral trade relations between the two countries but also to strengthen Mongolia–Japan cooperation across multiple sectors.

          In addition, it was emphasized that the project will provide a foundation for human resource development within the framework of collaboration between the Mongolian University of Science and Technology and the University of Tokyo, young engineers will be trained to work with emerging technologies such as H2-based industrial facilities, thereby enhancing professional capacity.

          Mr. E. Tuvshinchuluun, Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Commission, provided a detailed overview of the current state of Mongolia’s energy sector and the legal and regulatory processes for implementing new renewable energy projects. He also expressed the Commission’s commitment to supporting the project within the framework of the existing legal and regulatory environment.
