On-Site Consultations Provided to Consumers

A joint working group of the Energy Regulatory Commission of Mongolia and Ulaanbaatar Electricity Distribution Network SOE has been conducting inspections in response to consumer complaints. The team assessed consumers’ daytime, nighttime, and peak-hour electricity usage and provided advice on how to reduce consumption during peak hours. They also explained the benefits of switching to a three-tier metering system, which allows households to lower their electricity bills.

Since the nighttime tariff remains unchanged, consumers were advised to make full use of their electric heating systems during the lower-priced nighttime hours, store heat, and then use it during the day to achieve savings. The team also offered detailed guidance on how electricity bills are calculated and on ways consumers can adjust their consumption to maximize efficiency.

For example, as of February 13, 2025, a consumer in Bayanzurkh District requested an inspection of their electricity usage. The consumer’s detached house (100 m²) was equipped with an 18 kW electric heater with a temperature sensor, operated continuously for 24 hours. Their electricity consumption had increased by 40 percent compared to the same period last year. Energy efficiency auditors conducted an on-site thermal loss assessment and found significant heat leakage through the joints of the walls and roof. They recommended measures to reduce heat loss and informed the consumer that electricity use could be lowered by up to 50 percent through proper insulation improvements.

This initiative is aimed at supporting efficient energy use among consumers and helping them reduce electricity costs.
