At its regular meeting, the Energy Regulatory Commission of Mongolia (ERC) approved the 2025 target levels for reducing fuel consumption and internal electricity usage at eight thermal power plants, as well as for lowering transmission and distribution losses at 18 companies engaged in electricity transmission and distribution.
- After reviewing the proposals submitted by the thermal power plants of the Central Integrated Power System, the Commission resolved to reduce fuel consumption by 5.1 grams per kWh of electricity and 1.2 kg per GCal of heat in 2025. This is expected to generate savings of approximately 5.4 billion MNT.
- Internal electricity consumption at the plants will also be reduced by 28.5 million kWh, leading to an estimated additional saving of about 6.1 billion MNT.
- With respect to electricity transmission and distribution losses, the Commission set targets below the levels proposed by companies, reducing losses by a total of 25.5 million kWh, which equates to approximately 5.5 billion MNT in savings.
