International Consumers right day occurs on March 15th every year. Mongolia has been celebrating this day since 2008. As for 2023, this day is celebrated under the name of “Smart Consumer, Clean Energy”, furthermore, government and non-governmental organizations cooperated together to acquire knowledge to consumers and support energy efficient consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emission.
The “Smart consumer, Clean Energy” event was jointly organized by the Authority for Fair Competition and Consumer Protection (AFCCP), Ministry of Energy (MOE), Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and Mongolian Center for Housing Innovation and Development.
ERC implements the Law on Energy Conservation within the functions provided by the law. It is important to have community participation in the energy conservation law. Also, if every citizen allocates their consumption and by discharging fridge or freezer at the peak time and turning off the used electrical appliances completely and turning off the empty room light… etc, there will be real savings on energy and it can reduce the peak load of the energy system.
If every household becomes habitual of smart and efficient consumption, it will be possible to reduce green gas house emissions by generating clean energy with the renewable energy resources. Through this event, information was provided to the communities, about energy efficient technology, heat supply and clean energy and its importance of adoption.
