On the initiative of the Energy Regulatory Commission, the "Energy Sufficiency and Savings" conference was organized in cooperation with the National Dispatching Center and the Global Green Growth Institution.
The increasing consumption, energy resources and sufficiency, which are the basis of the country's security and sustainable social development, have become pressing problems in recent years.
The consumption of electricity has been constantly increasing around 7-8 percent on average per year. In 2021, the peak load was at 1387MW, while the most leaded peak load of this year was 1441MW in November. Furthermore, the growth of consumption has become “new normal”, and until the new power plants are constructed, the energy sector will face challenges.
Renewing the electricity distribution and supply network with smart metering, as well as transmission lines and substations, to implement this renovation in all over Mongolia, it will require 161 million dollars to finance. If this funding source is decided and the project is implemented, the loss of electricity distribution will decrease at 3.7units, and it is estimated that 272 million kW.h or 42 billion MNT will be saved per year.
The conference is attended by professional associations, research institutions and license holders including electricity generation, transmission and distribution companies, also their chairmans and engineers, as well as representatives of consumer organizations who have large amounts of consumption are participating in this conference. 230 of them participated in the hall and 400 of them participated online. Together, they exchanged information and opinions about the difficulties and solutions of the energy sector.
During the conference, governmental and non governmental organizations, professional associations and license holders approved the recommendations to follow in their activities. As a result of that, it is aimed to increase efficiency by creating energy savings and smart estimations.
